School District spokespeople have confirmed that at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Edinburg North High School was on temporary lockdown for about an hour after an escaped fugitive from the nearby Evins Juvenile Detention Center on Monte Christo Road was purportedly seen in the area.

The Edinburg Review became aware of the lockdown following reports by parents who mentioned that police were "running around campus with guns" and students hiding under their desks.

"ECISD closed the school as a precautionary measure," said District spokesperson Gilbert Tagle. "No one was injured and school will be open on Friday."

Tagle had mentioned that students from the ENHS drama department, as well as sports activities, were taking place at the time. The Review will have more soon.
