Baby congratulations go to Lisa & William Rivera of Donna, on the birth of their third child, Ariana Maria, who was born July 27, 2009. (Mom and Dad celebrated their 5th anniversary three days later, July 30th.) This little baby was welcomed into the family by big sister and brother, Alayna and Elijah, and proud grandparents Margarita & Cesar Quintanilla of Mission . . .

Recent wedding best wishes go out to Jennifer Ruiz & Oscar Longoria, who reportedly wed in a fabulously fun fete at the Club at Cimarron on August 1st. Her cousin Gloria Trevi was a special guest . . .

Darling Sandra Guerra served my daughter and me at Copper Canyon, a great place for tapas and talk . . .

In a funny coincidence, we had great waiter Brad Shropshire serving our big, messy family table at Olive Garden (just like TV — delicious Italian food and busy family), and turns out that yours truly used to go horseback riding with his great-aunt Virginia . . .

Saw Ana Maria Moon visiting IMAS (International Museum of Art & Science, 1900 Nolana) with little ones, as I was, and the kids were having a great time with “Grossology,” the gift shop, and “Science on a Sphere,” among other kid-friendly activities. To make things even more appealing, we had them out of the heat!

Visited with friendly Jo Fisher and Yerenett Cavazos in the museum’s visitor services while I renewed my membership. They are excited about the upcoming Collage 2009, Strands of Time . . .

2009 is the 30-year anniversary of Collage and will honor Marge Bentsen, who not only chaired the first one, but brought the whole auction gala concept to McAllen. Mark your calendars for October 17th, and be looking for moredetails from this year’s chair, Debbie Ingram . . .

While on the museum topic, Border Media (BMP Radio) and IMAS are sponsoring a Back to School Bash this coming Saturday, August 22nd, from 10 to 4. According to Assistant Director Angela Maxwell, this will be FREE to the public and will feature tons of indoor and outdoor activities, with McGruff and the McAllen Police Department, the McAllen Fire Department and pictures with the Killer Bees and Vipers mascots . . .

Had a fun phone visit with Dago Rivera and Roxie Gray at the Club at Cimarron, that is once I mastered the intricacies of their phone answering system, which they promise is being replaced. Nothing like talking to a real human!

Happy birthday for yesterday to my birthday buddies, Maria Elena Useda, Berta Guerra, Alicia Martinez, Mario Hinojosa, Peppi Pizzano, Hector Urrutia, and Carolyn Odom . . .

For today, birthday cheer is wished to Mary Nell de la Garza, Betsy Lewis, and David Newton . . .

And for tomorrow, birthday greetings go to Bob Sanchez, John Wantland, Michelle Zamora, and Maria Isabel Evans . . .

Thank you to those who have been calling in news. I appreciate you all and wish us rain in the future!
