Congratulations to the Valley’s new King Citrus (and our former neighbor) Dr. Jose Amador of McAllen, who was crowned by immediate past King Citrus Tom Aderhold of Edinburg. So presumably Silvia Amador is now the Queen Consort?

Next year’s Queen Citrianna was announced at the end of the festivity, and she is Tyler Zimmerman of Weslaco. Tyler served as Duchess of Lemon, and her parents are Tommie Lee & Kenneth Zimmerman . . .

The new Princess of Grapefruit Blossom is Kaylee Seahorn, who was Duchess of Rio Red; the new Princess of Orange Blossom is Elsa de Leon, who was serving as Duchess of Cactus Blossom from Starr County; and the new Lady in Waiting is Mylinn Solis, who was Duchess of Periwinkle from Hidalgo, and was also chosen as this year’s most photogenic.

The Citrus Fiesta court member who was chosen “Miss Congeniality” was Corina Chapa, Duchess of Pink Grapefruit. (The Congeniality title is particulary important to those of us who enjoyed that movie.)

Thank you to Bonnie Smith for showing up with another of those delicious cakes from Diana’s Cakes, this one a “Chantilly” cake, and yummy!

As of yesterday, I will have seen Peggy Nix, and she, too, is to be thanked for her program on Victor Alvarez . . .

Saw Phyllis Hutchins and spoke to Ann Moore, who both recommend the new restaurant/lounge El Divino on Austin Street, owned by Isaac Guerra. For us longtime residents, the location is that of the old White Kitchen . . .

Last week, Yvonne Dougherty was honored by her husband George and family with a dinner out at new restaurant Pancho’s Nuevo Mexico for her February 4th birthday. (They said the food was great — on the freeway, south side between 10th & McColl in McAllen.)

Spoke to my kids in Abu Dhabi, and they were excited to have rain forecast for last week — one of the three or four days a year of the wet stuff!

Tomorrow all of you Junior League of McAllen sustainers mustn’t forget the Valentine Luncheon at Susie Guidry’s, where heart décor will be enjoyed by all . . .

Last chance to sign up for the Mardi Gras 2010 gala at St. John’s Episcopal Church next Tuesday, so call the church office at 687-6191 for more info, where friendly Melissa Galindo can answer your questions . . .

All of you sweethearts have fun on Valentine’s Day, next Sunday the 14th. A meal in, prepared with love, might be even more fun than an overcrowded restaurant. Happy Valentine’s Day birthdays to these sweeties: Janet Wallace, Celia Thrash, Susan De Leon, and Mallory Radd. And I do, of course, fully support the restaurants in the Valley!

Birthday greetings for this Monday past, the 8th, to Linda Garza . . .

Happy birthday for tomorrow to Marlou Levine, Marianne Hartness, and Barbara Bledsoe . . .

Note to all readers: the following phone number is not the newspaper’s phone number; it is a number just for this column. Call in your “I See You” news to 686-8056, or mail to the Town Crier. Remember, at least one week ahead!
