Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Brownsville will open five community resource sites to offer relief to families in need of assistance following Hurricane Alex. The sites will open the day after the hurricane to provide food and water from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sister Norma Pimentel, director of Catholic Social Services, said Catholic Charities is collaborating with the local Food Bank, the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army to distribute resources after the storm.

Individuals who need assistance before or after the storm can call the Catholic Charities’ hotline at 1-866-775-2007 between 9 a.m. to noon from Monday through Friday to request assistance.

Sister Pimentel also said volunteers are needed to help at each of the sites. To volunteer, call (956) 702-4088.

“We need people who can help anywhere from unloading truckloads of food, to distributing it, answering phone calls, filling out intakes, and feeding people.”
