Baby congratulations are in order for McAllen Junior Leaguer Myra and her husband Frank Gonzalez, Jr. for the birth of their baby Olivia, who was just born December 4, 2009. Proud grandparents are Mr. & Mrs. Francisco Gonzalez, Sr., of Harlingen, and Mr. & Mrs. Marco Leal of McAllen . . .

Saw Art Guerra both at The Patio on Guerra (and a delicious dinner was had by all!) and celebrating the season with his lovely wife Barbara, and children Aubrey, Arturo III, and Gloriana & Richard Koll with their baby Richard Joaquin. Little Joaquin was born September 24, 2009. Congratulations to the parents and grandparents!

Saw loads of ladies enjoying the Pan American Round Table of McAllen's mother-daughter luncheon and program this month. Had fun visiting at the same table with Rosie Cardenas and her daughter-in-law Courtney Cardenas, Margarita Salinas and her two daughters, Marta Salinas-Hovar and Mercedes Espinosa, and Sylvia Cardenas . . .

Also saw Mandy Peña and her daughter-in-law Mary Peña, Mary Alice Magaña and her daughter Debbie, Christina Barrios and her daughters Lucy Williamson and Lizzie Jarzombeck. Seeing all these family members having fun together did put me in a holiday spirit can't wait to have mine here!

Not only did the members and visitors get to hear Norma Woolsey's program on El Salvador, they were privileged to have Carmen Guerra lead them in dancing, Salvadorean-style . . .

Back to that holiday spirit thing - and I hope you are all finding yours Nancy Dowell gave an entertaining program about everything you ever wanted to know about Christmas trees, which put us in the evergreen mood for sure! C'mon do you know which US President first put up a Christmas tree in the White House? To be continued . . .

Congrats to 12-year-old actress Karolinah Villarreal from Mission for her upcoming roles in Desperate Housewives in January, and the film Valentine's Day in February. (No, it's not about the mafia.) I enjoyed hearing that she misses our heat in Southern California . . .

Saw Norma & Eddie Guerra celebrating the season, along with Nohem-, Baldo & Connie Vela, Gayle & Neal Runnels, Bailey & Gary Gurwitz, Maria Teresa & Dr. Rafael Garza, Ana Maria & Willard Moon, Amy Ellison, Yolanda & Dr. Cayetano Barrera, and have to add that Wally Mej-a was serving a yummy black walnut cake . . .

Carol Lynn Looney was a good influence on me and inspired me to wait on my hubby who was parking the car, because she was waiting for her Cullen . . .

At this moment our book club should be having our annual gift exchange, which means "gift stealing," and I remind all of the members not to embarrass hostess Joyce Smith by actually being upset about a "steal" remember the spirit of the holidays, and remember it as you allow other motorists to cut in front of you while you are merrily humming "Santa Came to Town". . .

While getting my Chihuahua's photo taken with Santa at PetsMart, saw the folks from "Happy Tails K9 Rescue" showing some seriously adorable puppies up for adoption. Call them at 414-5929 to find your best gift ever . . .

Three of yesterday's birthday children included Sandra Brown, Edna Villarreal and Rosie Wilkinson, who was also seen out having pre-birthday fun at a Christmas party with her spouse Ray . . .

Birthday greetings for today go to Norman Linkenhoger, and for tomorrow to the shy and reclusive (not!) Cynthia Sakulenzki and Cliff Chambers . . .
