It’s another beautiful week in the Rio Grande Valley…

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!! With only 16 shopping days left, I am happy to report that much of my shopping was done this past weekend at the Junior League of McAllen’s Dias Festivos Marketplace. It was definitely a successful event with lots of fabulous offerings by great merchants from all over the country, and proceeds benefiting local children through the Junior League’s many community projects. In addition, I was thrilled to see many local merchants, such as Trendy’s, Sweet Dreams, Serendipity of the Valley, BH Designs, Lauren Anthony Couture and Lidia’s Jewelry, just to name a few.

Had a wonderful time at the Dias Festivos Sugarplum Preview Gala and was impressed to see the fabulous marketplace open up to a grand ballroom, where guests sipped Chardonnays and Cabernets while bidding on some great auction items. The menu for the evening consisted of delicious dishes from the La Pinata cookbook, in celebration of its 35th year. Seen were Junior League of McAllen President (and newlywed) Denise Garcia Thieme and her husband Ken, as well as JLM members Kristy Ochoa, Lorena Castillo, Monica Martinez, KK Truitt, Olicia Hinojosa, Donna Bzibziak, Kelsey Martin, Nicci Grossman, Rachel Wilkins, Heather Fallek, and Rachel Torres, among many others. A special Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the founders of the famous La Pinata Cookbook: Jane McGilvray, Bailey Gurwitz, Lynda Moore, Zetta Fair, Hilda Lewin, and Jane Talbot.

Had a fun evening of bunco and yummy food from Russo’s of McAllen at the home of Brianne Santos. Saw many beautiful faces, including Courtney Egan, Tory Guerra, Stephanie Erb, Cindy Disque, Rubi Yzaguirre, ChristineWallace, Tiffany Horne, Kacey Ruppert, Laura Downing, Kasey Hall, Rebecca Solis, and Vanessa Wiesehan.

Attended a recent “Make, Bake & Create” ladies Christmas party at the home of Sherry Gossett and saw many festive friends, including Keesha Zey, Jeannette Womack, Coley Walsh, Wilma LaGrange, Helen Reinhardt, Suzanne Gray, Esther Miller, Terri Burleson, Karen Wallace, Ann Ganyard, Ladda Gibson, Jennifer Devenport, Margie Porter, Karen Peterson, and several others. Came home with a delicious “Red Earth” cake made by Kathy Bledsoe.

The McAllen STC Lions Club is having a country music fest called Country Cares, which will be at Las Palmas Racepark on December 11th, starting at 5pm. Headliners for the event will be local country greats The Last Call Band, Tony Perez Band, Michael Aaron Band, Sons of the Rio Grande, and Tejas. In addition, a guitar signed by Tracy Lawrence will be raffled off. Tickets to this event are $10 and proceeds will benefit the Rio Grande Children’s Home. Thanks to Mike Gutierrez for sending me the info on this fun event!

The Angels of Love Christmas Toy Drive is currently ongoing until Friday, December 17th. This organization is collecting toys for abused and neglected children that are under the custody of Child Protective Services. Toys can be dropped off at Johnny Carinos, Just Convinced, or Kaboom Comics in McAllen. For more information, see www.angelsoflovefoundation.com.

Tomorrow is the day for the “All About Women Christmas Affair” at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. It will begin with a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres hour at 5:30pm, followed by shopping, door prizes, music and fun.

Birthday wishes for this week go belatedly to Daniel Pena, JR DeLeon, and Samantha Neally. Celebrating today is Ysa Rodriguez, while weekend birthday wishes go out to Holly Roper, Alden Rush, Cindee Godinez, and Victoria Martinez. Happy Birthday, everyone!!

I wish you love & blessings in the coming week and I hope to “see you” soon!
