Visitors to The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library will be able to enjoy an expanded collection of audio and visual DVDs. The library was awarded a $17,905 grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission through the Lone Star Library Grant.
Library Director Leticia S.Leija said they received the grant in the beginning of the year and has been utilized to purchase computer and multimedia equipment. With the remaining amount, a total of 500 new DVD’s and 197 audio books were purchased.
“These additional materials are a much welcomed addition to the collection,” Leija said.
The DVD collection includes current movies, educational DVDs including history, health and fitness and travel. A collection of children DVDs focusing on education and early literacy are also available. The new additions brings a total Audio/Visual collection to 6629 (3735 visual-DVD/VHS and 2894 audio) to the library.
Since 2002, the Texas Legislature has distributed $19.4 million to Texas public libraries through the Loan Star Libraries grant program. Since last year, 540 public libraries across the state have shared $5.65 million in funds. This is an increase of $3 million over 2007.
The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library is located on 1906 S. Closner Blvd.
