Grandmotherly congratulations go out to Carrie Agar of McAllen. Her daughter and son-in-law, Krissy & Matthew McHale of Pennsylvania, had a baby daughter and first child, Teagan Alexis, born April 11, 2010 — a tiny miracle and very welcome addition to the family . . .

(Sorry about that — that was a repeat from an earlier column due to the misspelling of the little darling’s name — due to a poor cell phone connection and so on . . .)

McAllen’s Pan American Round Table welcomed their 2010 scholarship winners from the local high schools: Kimberly Hernandez from McHi, Erika Lopez from Memorial, and Lizeth Gomez from Nikki Rowe. Our Scholarship Chairman, Mary Lou Treviño, is to be commended for a job well done!

Had fun sitting with Berta Guerra and her niece Victoria Guerra, who is a local attorney. Thanks to my daughter, I could talk law a little . . .

Saw Coty Garza and Irma Zavaleta give an enjoyable, information program about Honduras. I’m embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t noticed until checking out their map that Honduras (meaning “the depths”) has a small Pacific coast as well as Caribbean . . .

Saw lots of other ladies, too, such as Mandy Peña, Charlene Hertz, Alma de la Garza, Deanna Longoria Ramirez, Marcia Ingram, Marlou Levine, Ileana Florez, and Minnie Lanham, who is to be commended for always checking in us latecomers on the roll call . . .

Kudos to new columnists in the Town Crier: Mark Noe for his commentaries on modern life, such as last week’s “Supply and Demand;” and to Odette MacDonald for her “Madame Gourmand” column of restaurant reviews.

All of us in Literary Luncheon League really enjoyed Keesha Zey’s entertaining review of The Help, complete with different hats for different narrators . . .

Saw Virginia Skloss, Gay Hill, Eva Spence, Betty Gegenheimer, Barbara Parry, sis Nancy Cosby, Darlene Hart and her sis Shirley Slusher, and many others having a good time in the audience . . .

Back to a mention in last week’s column, more details on “speed dating” are available at valleymatch.org, according to owner Celia Thrash and her partner Maria Patterson . . .

Congratulations to Coach Daniel E. Cantu, teacher of the month for May from South Middle School in Edinburg, from your family and proud parents, Eudelia & Frank Cantu of Edinburg . . .

From my week in the hill country, ended up leaving out the April 28th birthday of one of my sweet bridge buddies, Karen Wallace — heard it was happy! (She’s a quick learner, too!)

For yesterday, birthday cheer is wished to Carol Rodriguez and Greg Turley . . .

Happy birthday for today is wished to Jean Semler, Rosie Sotelo, Ana Treviño, Catherine Link, Brook Callender, Deborah Case-Kryzak, Joseph Garcia, Joe McClellan, and Jordan Smith . . .

Celebrating birthdays tomorrow are Debra Schneider, Shannon Martin, and Charlie LaGrange . . .

Note to all readers: the following phone number is not the newspaper’s phone number; it is a number just for this column. Call in your “I See You” news to 686-8056, or mail to the Town Crier. Remember, at least one week ahead!
