McALLEN — The 16th Annual Winter Texan Expo & Health Fair will be held in the new McAllen Convention Center January 14th and 15th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 2-day event is a fun-filled event with entertainment, health screenings, information seminars, and door prizes.

The event is free and will have health related business representatives, and restaurants that will provide goods and services to the over-50 crowd.

Holly Smith, sales and marketing director for the Winter Texan Expo, said they expect approximately 9,000 seniors to attend the event.

Between the months of October and March, over 150,000 Winter Texans visit the Rio Grande Valley and infuse about $633 million into the Valley’s economy; this is according to the Winter Texan Expo Web site.

Tests given at the expo include hereditary risk assessments for Cancer (Breast, ovarian, colon), tests for sleep apnea, oxygen levels, vision screenings, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings. Diabetes screenings, heart disease, glucose, and blood pressure screenings as well as chiropractic spinal evaluations will be given.

Door prizes and giveaways include money machines, music box carousel, promotional music CD’s, gift baskets, shoes and hand bags, tote bags, discount cards, tickets, eyes screening coupons and Mexican food meals from Tico’s, gift certificates, line dance lessons.

Entertainment include John Wayne impersonator, Dr. Gene Howard, The 5-6-7-8 dancers. The Cowboys and Hobo Show with Cactus Willie, Boxcar Bob, and the Drifter, The Red Johnson show, The Raymers, Aver Herrald, The Freddie & Shelia show featuring Clint Pelletier, Carlos Canas, Long Ago String band and the Whitefords.
