Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church of Edinburg Women’s Auxiliary donned pink the fourth Sunday in October to heighten awareness of breast cancer and early detection. The color pink is a reminder to get a mammogram and to do regular self-breast exams to prevent this terrible disease. Every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer and by early detection, the rate of survival greatly increases. According to www.BreastCancer.org, about one in every eight women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. But do not forget that men can develop breast cancer as well. About 1,970 new cases of male breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2010. Everyone -whether a friend, neighbor, family member, male, female, or even you — will be affected by cancer in some way in a lifetime. If you feel a suspicious lump while examining yourself, make an appointment with your physician right away. Remember to schedule your mammogram today! Established in 1938, Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church has been providing spiritual guidance for over 72 years. The Church is located at 1021 E. Van Week in Edinburg and is under the leadership of Rev. John McDowell. Church services are held every Wednesday night beginning at 6 pm and every Sunday morning beginning at 11 a.m.
