As I write this column, I am waiting to board a boat for a Port of Brownsville Tour (thank you Breakaway Cruises!) with over 100 activity and tour directors from across the Valley! Our boat departs in 16 minutes so I have to think and type fast. … Because as you and I both know, the activities of season don’t stop!

This event marks the last of our “Activity Director Camp.” We know how hard our activity directors work throughout the season, so we decided to give them a little treat to start the season off right. Our first stop was the Old Hidalgo Pumphouse — if you haven’t made a day trip out there yet, mark it on your list of “must do’s” for this season. The City of Hidalgo treated us right with trolley tours, museum tours and a wonderful dinner prepared by the Hidalgo Chamber of Commerce. Hidalgo is hopping this time of year, so make sure and watch for their many upcoming events, especially the Festival of Lights!

Our next stop was Quinta Mazatlan — heaven on earth! We had a wonderful evening with music by Brooks Ausborn, tons of food from our friends at Tony Roma’s, Red Lobster, Chic-fil-A, Hooters, Remington’s, and Border Buttermilk provided by the McAllen Chamberof Commerce and treats from Dairy Queen! Quinta Mazatlan is another great day trip/tour — from birds to butterflies they have it all.

As I wrap up this column I hear laughter and fun boarding Breakaway Cruises’ big boat, the XCAPE, and as we sail off into the bay we’ll be thinking about you, and we hope to see you real soon!
