The Muay Thai Alliance of Texas (MTAT) is proud to announce its first ever fully sanctioned Muay Thai event in Texas. “Texas Revolution: Border Showdown” is set for Saturday, May 15 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The showdown will feature some of the best talent that Texas has to offer in a state sanctioned 12-bout scheduled spectacular.
“This is a very exciting event for the Rio Grande Valley and for the entire state because it brings fighters from across the state to test their skill and mettle in Muay Thai,” said Kru Kayan Sitsanthaparn.
“Even though we’re in Texas, our goal is to make our shows as traditional and as close to being in Thailand as possible. The music, the environment, the experience, will have that traditional feel. Although our event is traditional, it’s okay to cheer and make some noise! Cheering and having a great time is encouraged!”
One fighter, of many to watch for is 2009 IFMA World Bronze Medalist and #3 world-ranked Junior Division athlete Roel Alvarado of San Juan, Texas. Alvarado will be facing off against contender D.J. Herrera of Dallas in the 120 pound weight class for the first youth Muay Thai match in Texas history. Alvarado was a member of the U.S. National Team that competed in Bangkok last year and made national sports history by becoming the first junior division athlete in the U.S. to have earned a medal at the IFMA World Championships.
“‘Border Showdown’ is the first of a series of ‘Texas Revolution’ events to take place in major cities across Texas for state amateur ranking. Fifteen title belts for the State’s top contenders up for grabs at the end of the year in a superfight. Those champions will then be the athletes that represent the state of Texas as part of the Team Texas “Rebels” in National and International competition,” said Sitsanthaparn.
Tickets for the “Texas Revolution: Showdown” range from $3 to $30. Advance tickets are available online at www.mtalliancetx.com or call 956-975-0021.
