GARCIA TO RUN FOR COUNTY JUDGE
Edinburg attorney and former county judge Ramon Garcia held a fundraiser at the Art Village in McAllen on Sept. 2. Ramon is once again running for county judge and at the fundraiser said he had the support of 90 percent of elected officials in Hidalgo County. Among those attending the fundraiser were (left to right) Rep. Aaron Peña, D-Edinburg, Garcia, La Joya Mayor Billy Leo, and Alamo mayor Rudy Villarreal. Also in attendance were McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez, and Hidalgo Mayor John David Franz. Franz has been a big supporter of current County Judge JD Salinas in the past, and attended a fundraiser for Salinas earlier in McAllen in July. On his blog, Rep. Peña said Garcia in fact would not draw opposition from Salinas, who is rumored to be seeking a run for Congressional seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa in 2010, whether or not the Mercedes Democrat seeks re-election. Hinojosa has yet to announce that he will seek re-election. Salinas did not comment as of press time.
