Lester Cook, 24, is the winner of the 2009 Dr. Raul Marquez and Dr. Rosario Parra Men’s Futures of McAllen.

With a cheering crowd surrounding the courts at the McAllen Country Club, Cook defeats Andrey Kumantsov, 1-6, 6-2, 4-0, after Kumantsov retires from dehydration and a rapid heart. Kumantsov won the first set with his hard serves and fast reactions, but he just could not go on during the third set, he is doing better.

Both Cook and Kumantsov have played long and hard hours during this week’s tournament, “they are both very good players and we are proud to have them play at this tournament,” says Tournament Director Arturo Czerwiak, “this tournament went better than planned and we hope to have a great one next year.”

In the doubles finals Ruben Gonzales of United States and Andreas Siljestrom of Sweden defeated Luis Diaz-Barriga and Antonio Ruiz-Rosales both of Mexico, 6-3, 6-7(10) [10-4]. All four of the players had the crowd on the edge of their seats with every swing and hit. During the trophy presentation they each thanked each other for playing as best as they could.

Dr. Raul Marquez and Dr. Rosario Parra would like to thank all the sponsors for the tournament, along with everyone that was involved with making this tournament happen. This is the sixth year the McAllen Country Club has hosted the tennis tournament and the 30th anniversary for the USTA Pro Circuit tournament.
