Writing from the Hill Country, your columnist saw many glamorous attendees at San Antonio’s Fiesta 2010. We have never seen more bling in one setting!
Former McAllen residents Mary Catherine & Pedro Alonso had two lovely daughters presented as Duchesses in the “Court of Dazzling Adornments,” Christina Elizabeth and Ana Maria . . .
Just so you know, the court was honoring the accomplishments of jewelry designers of the ‘20s and ‘30s, which explains why Christina Elizabeth was “Duchess of the Vision of Van Dell,” and Ana Maria was “Duchess of The Brilliance of Buccellati” . . .
McAllen’s Jackie Jones was there to see her lovely granddaughter and namesake Jacqueline Jordan Smith, “Duchess of the Boldness of Boivin” . . .
Beautiful, tiny Nina Eileen Bassett of Harlingen was “Duchess of Chanel Chic,” a vision in peach admired by her mom Ann Bassett and dad Dr. Rick Bassett, and aunt and uncle Barbara & Tommy Dismukes, also of Harlingen . . .
Some of the other Valleyites spotted were Anne & Bob Shepard, Ann Dunkin, Grace & Darrell Johnson, and Suzanne Zurlinden, who helped out with flowers and décor . . .
Enjoyed viewing the glitterati with Jamie Wolf, Nancy Russell, and Vicki & Pete Moore, so we could pool our admiration and observations . . .
To cap off the celebration, with the approval of the Order of the Alamo, the San Antonio Humane Society annually presents their canine king, Rey Felix of the “Order of the Ever Present Fire Hydrant,” or some such. As you might expect, this king was a confident Chihuahua, sporting an appropriate Fiesta crown and robe . . .
Congratulations to Adrian Salinas of Alton, who will make his first communion on May 8th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen, from his uncles Cleofus and Juan Vera of Alamo . . .
Saw Jamie McClain, who gave me some yoga tips, and yes, I’m going to get back into exercise. (Maybe if I put this in print, it will happen!)
Also talked exercise with Barbara Guerra of Uptown Gym, furthering my resolve to do more than just walk (meander with) my Chihuahua. Chatted with her spouse Art, who made us a reservation at the Patio, hence even more need for exercise . . .
Had fun visits with Isabel Link, Eunice Inglés, Gretchen Garrett and L.D. Clopton, too, when we went to the Patio On Guerra, indulging in another delicious meal . . .
Talked to Mimi Haddad, who was just back from a very fun mother-daughter trip to New York City with her daughter Nicole; and talked to Karen Hunke, just back from an incredible New Zealand jaunt with her husband Phil . . .
Thank you to my e-mail buddy Lily Torrez for keeping me abreast of info such as attorney’s warnings . . .
Sorry about the lack of birthdays this week, (didn’t take my list to the Hill Country) but if you readers will e-mail me your birthdays or other news at firstname.lastname@example.org, they’ll be in, in the future!
Note to all readers: the following phone number is not the newspaper’s phone number; it is a number just for this column. Call in your “I See You” news to 686-8056, or mail to the Town Crier. Remember, at least one week ahead!
