McAllen — In front of a packed house Friday, Feb. 26, Danny Salinas’ (5-1) hand was raised as he claimed a victory against Edwynn “Ox” Jones of Houston in the 170 weight class as part of South Texas Fighting Championships “STFC 10: Annihilation” undercard.
“That was a hell of a ride man,” Salinas said. “He (Jones) questioned me and made me question my heart but in the end I dug deep and I came out okay. He’s a hell of a guy man.”
It took the Edinburg fighter three rounds to defeat Jones and all three judges scored the bout 30-27 for the unanamous decision.
“He’s my toughest fight yet,” said Salinas, with a good size cut under his left eye. “I took a beating in this one and I came out on top.”
After the match Jones had nothing but praise for his friend.
“Out of all the fights that I’ve fought against, Danny is a real solider,” Jones said of Salinas. Up next for Salinas is the healing process but with help from Jones he has decided his future.
“I’m going to the gym and heal out, it will probably take a week to heal,” Salinas said. “Mr. Ox just made me decide that I’m going to 155 (weight class) for sure now. That’s a big boy and I’m going to 155 for sure.”
The main event of the night featured former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco “Suave” Rodriguez vs. Patrick Miller. The bout came down to the decsion giving Rodriguez the win.
