Heard that world traveler Ann Ganyard of Mission had great fun spending her July birthday in Paris, seeing Europe with family, and probably eating some incredible meals. Wonder if the weather was cool, or just like home?
Saw Karen Hunke, and we agreed that having grandchildren visit is the most fun, especially when you have things lined up for them to do, like swimming and so on . . .
Also saw grandmom Kay Moffitt, and we discussed the merits of summer camp for grandkids. Bear in mind that there are summer camps away, and summer camps right here in the Valley, with fun things to keep kids active — valuable experiences for the whole family . . .
Enjoyed seeing Maxine Guerra when she was on a flying visit in between ranching and family activities . . .
Also had a fun visit with NohemÃ- Vela, and believe me, I do learn about how to be a better mom/grandmom/aunt from all my friends. So thank you, ladies!
Yet another good grandmom, Deitrah Davis, popped in for a quick visit, in between her trips and "grandmomming" . . .
Last week the National Hispanic Entrepreneurs for Leadership in Politics (HELP) celebrated their first McAllen networking event at Osuka. According to the info sent to me by President and Founder J. C. Cervantes, the group is a non-profit, networking, membership-based organization — also non-partisan. Mike Martinez is vice-president and cofounder. Look for them in the future, and you can check them out at www.hispanicHELP.org . . .
Heard from Ann Rowland that the prospective member informational meeting for the Junior League of McAllen will be held tomorrow night, July 30th, at 7 p.m. at the Junior League office, 514 Dove. For additional info, you may visit their Web site, http://www.juniorleaguemcallen.org/%20membership.htm . . .
In a star-studded announcement, also concerning tomorrow night (which means the stars must be favorably aligned for July 30th!), Angela Maxwell of the International Museum of Art & Science, 1900 Nolana, said that there will be a STARS party at the museum from 7 — 10:30 p.m. with exhibits, presentations, hands-on activities and stars viewing. The night sky early viewing will give you a glimpse of Mercury, Saturn and the moon, with Jupiter rising in the east later. (We can assume that this will occur barring cloud cover. But in case of rain, we'll wait!) Free to members and regular admission to non-members . . .
Happy birthday for yesterday, July 28th, to Linda Chromaster-Graves and to Christina Lambert Gutierrez . . .
Birthday greetings for today are wished to Brianna McCormick, Diane Wilson, Carol Snodgrass, Morgan Talbot, Carol Mackie, Lily Moore, and Kevin Toyloy; and Jolene & Roger Vitko will celebrate a wedding anniversary . . .
For tomorrow, Rey Hinojosa can blow out birthday candles, as can our son Cullen Seitz. Come to think of it, his three children will probably rush to blow them out . . .
This Friday, fellow Pan American Round Table member Aida Torres will celebrate, as will fellow Junior League sustainer Sara Mandelbaum Beer . . .
