The Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV reports that its Walking Program is going strong.
The program is available to members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV who attend Travis Elementary, Austin Elementary and Robert E. Lee Elementary. After school, children are safely escorted from the school to the club by BGC staff on a daily basis. In order to participate in this program, parents need only to register their children for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV and fill out a permission slip for their child.
The walking program is a free service provided to parents. It allows them to know that while they are working or simply canít pick up their children right after school their children are in a positive, safe place. Once at the after school site, members are able to participate in programs such as Power Hour; this highly successful homework assistance program helps young people come to view homework as an opportunity to learn to work independently, complete projects on time and feel positive about their accomplishments.
The Boys & Girls Club has played an integral role in the Edinburg community for 39 years, providing daily programs and services to over 19,000 young people. During the School year the Club is open Monday through Friday, 3 to 7 p.m. for youth ages 6-12 and 4 to 8 p.m. for teens. The Club offers programs that emphasize character and leadership development, education and career enhancement, health and life skills, the arts, and sport, fitness and recreation.
