EDINBURG – Hidalgo County Commissioners' Court will hold four public hearings over the next few weeks to give the public the opportunity to comment on proposed County Commissioner precinct maps.
Every 10 years, Hidalgo County Commissioners' Court is tasked with the responsibility of redistributing the population equally among the four precincts. The 2010 Census figures indicated an imbalanced population distribution due to substantial population growth in some parts of the County, while other areas experienced a decrease in population. As a result, County Commissioner precinct boundaries must be redrawn to evenly distribute the population; the redistricting will also affect justice of the peace and constable jurisdictions.
Three proposed maps have been drawn by the attorneys hired by the County for redistricting services. These maps can be viewed on the County's website at www.co.hidalgo.tx.us/redistrict.
Residents are invited to attend the public hearings and submit their comments on the proposed maps. Public comments may also be submitted via the County's website.
