The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the McAllen Parks and Recreation Department are hosting the 29th McAllen Candlelight Posada this weekend at Archer Park.

The event kicks off with a lighted Christmas parade on Main Street and the lighting of the Mayor's Christmas tree on Friday night. Throughout the evening there will be plenty of entertainment for the entire family. Teen Town and Little Town are big attractions for teens and small children with plenty of games and activities.

Saturday the community joins in singing along with the nativity procession of the re-enactment of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter. Musical entertainment will follow throughout the evening for the entire family.

The City of Pharr will also be kicking off the Christmas season this weekend with the annual Pharr Christmas Fiesta and Lighted Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 3 to 9 p.m. in Downtown Pharr.

Mayor Leo "Polo" Palacios Jr. will light the city's official Christmas tree during the ceremony. The Lighted Parade begins at 5:45 p.m. at Poncho's Restaurant on North Cage Blvd. and make its way up the street past Pharr City Hall.

There will be food booths, kiddie rides, Christmas music and a North Pole Snow Party in downtown as part of the celebration.
