It’s another beautiful week in the Rio Grande Valley . . .
It seems that blessings are coming in twos these days, as double congratulations go out to the Ewings and Sides, who have recently welcomed new babies into their families! Gail & Jack Ewing are the proud grandparents of not one, but two new grandchildren. Baby Luke — born last month to Mallory Latham and husband Steven, and baby Claire — born last week to son Ryan Ewing and his wife Megan. Also welcoming new grandchildren are Ami & Monty Sides, whose daughter Kelli Carpenter (along with hubby Deke and big brother Case) welcomed twins Sydni and Ryland! Yay for new babies at Christmastime!
Attended the Ladies Night Out at New & Again Antique Mall in McAllen and spied many beautiful items, including one fabulous Christmas wreath that is my new favorite piece of décor! Seen enjoying refreshments and hunting for treasures were Myra Baker, Karen Peterson, Terri Burleson, April Flowers, Peggy Fisher, and sisters/owners Diana Garza & Dolly Markle.
You would think that all I do is shop because also on my calendar was the Jones & Jones holiday party hosted by Stephanie Moore and Courtney Cardenas, with proceeds benefiting the Museum of South Texas History. Saw many familiar faces including Alison Jones, Kathleen Pebley, Ann Moore, Dru LaMantia and Tracy Crain, among several others.
Also seen at the previous two events was my new friend and food critic Odette MacDonald. Also a Valley Town Crier columnist, Odette writes a wonderful commentary on her culinary crusades throughout the Rio Grande Valley. She definitely knows her RGV restaurants!
Saw lots of beautiful faces at Libby Brown & Austin Miller’s annual Holiday Cheer party, including Nancy Hawkins, Ann Greenfield, Jan & Mindy Schroeder, Jill & Nancy Dillard, Ann Williams, RuthAnn Jones, Melinda Bosquez, Linda Moore, Pat Fletcher, Ann Williams, Wendy Schroeder, and Paula Moxley, just to name a few.
Tamales and fabulous homemade tortilla soup was on the menu at the Junior League of McAllen Board Christmas Dinner, hosted by JLM President Denise Garcia-Thieme. Dinner was followed by a very spirited “white elephant” gift exchange, where I think Brianne Santos had gifts stolen from her no less than 5 times! Other board members present for the fun were Kristy Ochoa, Ann Roland, Michelle Palacios, KK Truitt, April Chapa, Jayne Salinas, Linda Requenez Rossborough, MaryLee Alaniz, and Jennifer Lewis.
Birthday wishes for this week go belatedly to Jeanne Martinez, Heather Taylor, Karen Countryman, Casey MacDonald, Rhonda Koepke, and Derrick Roach. Celebrating today is Sam Tijerina, with Susan Sosebee blowing out birthday candles tomorrow. Weekend birthday wishes go out to Jason Broughton, Camila Ball, Irma Garza, and to my sweet baby boy Beau Marks. Happy Birthday, everyone!!
PS: Mark your calendars for the Texas A&M Singing Cadets performance that will be Monday, January 10th at the McAllen Civic Auditorium. This concert has been made possible by the Senior Ambassadors and the Hidalgo/Starr Texas A&M Club. These young men are incredibly talented and anyone who has witnessed them perform will tell you that their show is absolutely amazing. You need not be an Aggie or even an Aggie fan—this concert is for everyone! Tickets are just $10 each and can be purchased at CopyZone in McAllen (10th Stree & Nolana).
Also upcoming is the 18th Annual Winter Texan Expo & Health Fair, January 11th and 12th at the McAllen Convention Center. Admission is free and will feature many vendors, entertainment and activities for seniors. For more information, contact Holly Smith at 460-6887 or visit www.wintertexanexpo.com.
