San Juan turns 100 this December and is celebrating in spirited fashion by filling the streets of Downtown with their 2010 Centennial Celebration and Noche de Paz Christmas Festival hosted by the City of San Juan and San Juan Economic Development Corporation on Saturday, Dec. 11 from Noon to 10 p.m. Headlining this year’s event will be David Lee Garza y Los Musicales opened by Elida Reyna Y Advante.

Commemorating San Juan’s 100 years, the festival celebrates San Juan’s history and community pride. The City of San Juan is currently seeking sponsors, food vendors and parade entries. In addition, the SJEDC, in conjunction with Orange Media, is hosting the first-ever San Juan Film Race 2010, a filmmaking competition geared to capture the Spirit of Christmas in San Juan. A centennial only comes once, so the night will sparkle with a firework finale.

Noche de Paz will include a carnival, nighttime Christmas lit parade, two stages with local school & children performances & live music as well as food booth & shopping vendors. Rockfest returns for a second year with a line up featuring This City Alive, Day of Ashes, Ten Ton Hammer, Crywolf and Melodious to name a few.

Held in the middle of Downtown San Juan, special features include Chillfest San Juan’s Snow Playground, the Recycling Department’s Santa’s Workshop and more.

SJEDC Director Miki McCarthy states, “This is a great time of year for San Juan and our Rio South Texas Region to showcase local businesses, artists and talent through our festival. It is important for all entries to sign up early to make this event a bigger success.”
