Best wishes to Sarah Cozad & Brian Cates, who were joyfully wed last Saturday, September 25, 2010. Her parents are Johnny Cozad and the late Jane Cozad. Recently I’ve seen Sarah’s two grandmothers, Celine Cozad and Judy Bland, busy about town and looking forward to the wedding, plus saw some other family members . . .

Also happily married on September 25, 2010, were Sarah Alvarez & Kevin Picou, in a San Antonio ceremony. Their parents are Debbie Alvarez and Gary Wise, and Josie & Dr. Keith Picou . . .

Belated baby congrats are due Julie & William Baer for the birth of their daughter Caroline Addington Baer last summer, on June 11, 2010 . . .

And in August, Leigh & Sean Gillam welcome their baby son, Blake Benjamin Gillam, into their family on August 17, 2010 . . .

Enjoyed meeting gemologist Tina Guerra, her parents Sister & Carlos Guerra, plus many of her family members who popped into Oh Kay’s while Tina was showing her jewelry line, and Phyllis Hutchins and I were showing the Doncaster fashion line . . .

And of course I enjoyed spending the week with the ladies of Oh Kay’s, including Kay Jancik, Libby Brown, Lee Ann Sparks, Judy Quintana, and my sometimes namesake Amy Sides, who also has the maiden name of Stephenson . . .

The Friends of the McAllen Memorial Library will be having a giant used book sale this coming Saturday, October 2nd, from 12 — 9 p.m. at the McAllen Convention Center, S. Ware Road and Expressway 83. Friends’ President Judy Steger says that you can get a great deal on used books plus VHS/DVD/and music, so pick up some entertainment . . .

Thanks for the memories! This will be my final “I See You” column, and the past 20 years of writing for you have been waaay fun. My first one was in February, 1990, which seems like just yesterday. Which also means that it’s time to turn over the reins to my protégé, Heather Marks. She grew up in the Valley, is a Texas Aggie, is currently Vice President of Communications for the Junior League of McAllen, which is just one of her excellent qualifications for this job, which also include Leadership McAllen, and Friends for Hope with the Vannie Cook Children’s Cancer Center. Her husband Jared and their baby son, Beau, who just joined the family last spring, are proud of their wife/mom!

With many upcoming grandmom responsibilities looming in my near future, I feel retirement beckoning, and seeing Heather Broughton (now Marks) grow up in St. John’s, now in St. Peter & St. Paul, has made me feel good about turning the column over to her. Just so you know, any mistakes made in “I See You” over the past 20 years were simply errors or misprints, and never malicious. You wouldn’t believe the things I didn’t print, but hey, we’re not Hollywood!

Thanks are due the Junior League of McAllen, which was somewhat responsible for my being chosen to write the column, since I was writing a weekly column on the La Piñata cookbook at the time. Thanks also go to Gin Offerman, the first “I See You” columnist and her husband, Vern Offerman, editor/publisher of the newspaper at that time, for offering the column to me. Little did they know — I did not even realize they planned to pay me! And now, my gratitude and thanks go to current editor Brad Nibert, for being so easy to work with for the past several years

Happy birthday for yesterday to Pat Fletcher, Lupita Larson, and Nancy Murray; and birthday cheer for today is wished to Rachel Wilkins, Audrey Hinojosa, and Mark Motheral . . .

And for tomorrow, Louann Osment, Elvia Arriaga, and Jerry Talbott might be celebrating birthdays. May all of my readers have many happy birthdays and lots of love in your futures. Bye .

Note to all readers: your news for this column in the future goes to Heather Marks at iseeyouRGV@gmail.com. Remember, at least one week ahead!
