EDINBURG U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector confiscated more than $6.7 million worth of marijuana in multiple seizures over a four-day span.

More than $2 million worth of that was seized Friday by agents assigned to the Weslaco Station in three separate incidents, the most significant of which occurred that night when agents saw a suspicious vehicle traveling south toward the Rio Grande. Smugglers quickly loaded the vehicle with bundles of marijuana near the river's edge and then drove north with the vehicle's headlights turned off. The agents lost sight of the vehicle, but, as they were searching the area, they found an abandoned minivan loaded with more than 1,000 pounds of narcotics.

An additional 900 pounds of marijuana were seized that same day near La Grulla, Texas, by agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station. The agents made the seizure after finding 13 bundles of marijuana while following the fresh footprints of a group of people walking north away from the river.

Several additional seizures from Friday through Monday brought the total amount of marijuana seized to nearly 8,400 pounds. It was turned over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
