The last weekend in February means one thing for the City of Edinburg, the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and all the other coordinators, sponsors and vendors will be putting on another Fiesta Edinburg celebration.

This year, Fiesta Edinburg has a sports theme.

“Every year we pick a theme,” said Letty Gonzalez, president of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. “Last year was safari and this year we decided, since last year we had bad weather we decided to make it less expensive for people who are participating in the parade that we would just make it a sports theme.”

The fiesta events will take place from Feb. 25 through 28.

Thursday, there will be a carnival at Edinburg Municipal Park which will be $5 for all one can ride starting at 6 p.m. Also on Thursday, there will be a Winter Texan “Hasta La Vista Pachanga” at the Edinburg Activity Center at 3 p.m. On Friday, the carnival will continue at 6 p.m. again.

Saturday will be the all-day event with a run starting at 9 a.m. with a parade following at 10 a.m. The IBC Bank/Fiesta Edinburg Sports Bowl Parade grand marshalls will be all coaches from the E.C.I.S.D athletic department. The parade route will again be down Closner Blvd., from the Courthouse Square to Cats Stadium on Palm Drive.

Saturday night, the fiesta will continue at the Edinburg Municipal Park with a concert. The show starts at 3 p.m. and headliners include Los Palominos and Jaime y Los Chamacos. Sunday, the carnival starts at noon.

There will be a fun zone for children on Saturday. Some of the games include sack races, bean bag toss, tug of war, face painting and crafts. There will also be face painting and crafts.

Alcohol will be available on Saturday only and there will be no pets allowed at the park.
