Best wishes go out to Allison Dunn & Vonn Gray, who wed last Sunday, August 1, 2010, in San Antonio. His parents are Suzanne & Dr. Bruce Gray . . .
Congratulations to McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez, Channel 5 newscaster Letty Garza, and IBC Bank President Fred Rusteberg of Brownsville, who will be honored on August 12th at the Girl Scouts Award of Distinction Gala at McAllen Convention Center. Call Zaira Garcia at 668-0299 for tickets, or visit www.gsgst.org . . .
Saw Dr. Cayetano Barrera, who is to be complimented for his very calm demeanor. Probably not a coincidence that his nurse Edna has the same quality . . .
Had a nice long visit with Mary Cozad-Chauncey at Oh Kay’s, and met her beautiful daughter Cynthia, whom I hadn’t seen in years. So yes, I met her again . . .
Saw Steve Deck and met his wife Amy, whose name I can surely remember! Steve and I have some children the same age . . .
Also ran into Cecilia Shapiro, though we must quit meeting like that . . .
For those of you with young children, I have just purchased The Very Fairy Princess book, by Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton — an excellent gift for granddaughters with princess aspirations . . .
Had a fun conversation with Rosie Wilkinson about boxes, and have had many closet conversations with many ladies. (right, men could care less) Becoming enamored of your closet is a good thing, but it makes you want to redo every closet in the house, aka “painting one wall”. . .
Have seen many neighbors out biking and walking lately, such as Bob McClure and Peggy Nix. People are trying to go early to lessen the heat, and our fair city seems to have addressed the mosquito problem for now . . .
Here’s to trees and to Lillian Martinez, STC student and Biology Club President. I appreciate the article she wrote about trees providing shade and saving us $$$. Just remember, if our trees shed, so do our favorite pets. We can vacuum/rake and be grateful!
And while I’m at it, here’s to husbands who love to cook. We wives really appreciate the culinary skills . . .
If you like “Dancing With the Stars,” then your favorite upcoming gala will be the Rio Grande Valley Diabetes Association’s 4th annual “Dancing With the Stars of Hidalgo County,” to be held in October. To whet your dancing appetite, two of the local celebrity dancers will be Jesse De Leon and Debbie Ingram, with more dancer info to follow. For more details, call the RGV Diabetes Association at 292-3411 . . .
Yesterday’s golfer birthday girl celebrating was Marianne Seal. Birthday greetings for today go out to Norma Cardenas, Linda Requenez-Rossborough, and Jane Talbot . . .
Happy birthday for tomorrow to Dina Raders, Charles Zey, Yolanda Chapa, Betty Klinck, and happy anniversary to Gayle & Neal Runnels . . .
