It’s another beautiful week in the Rio Grande Valley . . .
Can you believe it’s already December?! My-oh-my how time does fly! I have to say that this is definitely my favorite time of the year, complete with celebrations of faith, family, friends and food!
Am looking forward to kicking off my holiday season this weekend at the Junior League of McAllen’s 24th Annual Dias Festivos Marketplace! This event will feature vendors offering gifts, clothes, jewelry, decor, gourmet food, and much more. More importantly, it will provide an excellent opportunity to “shop for a cause,” since proceeds from Dias Festivos will help benefit local children through the Junior League of McAllen’s many community projects. Hope to see you there!
My grandmother’s delicious and authentic lasagna (or an attempt at it by yours truly) was on the menu at a birthday celebration dinner in honor of my grandfather, Vandy VanDeventer. Family friends Chlokeeta Howard, Ernie Madsen, Tilley Eyeington, Pat & Virginia Townsend, Judy & Wayne Bonham, and Helen & Kenneth White were in attendance. The evening was concluded with delicious conversation and double chocolate tiramisu.
Helped host a baby shower in honor of Vannessa Eggleston, who is expecting a sweet baby girl. Quiche, fresh greens and fruit were served, along with delicious pink cookies made by Laurie Richey and cupcakes from Alexis Jelinek. Hostesses for the shower were Ilene Peralez, Christy Caric-Ball, Jana Hendrick and Celine Schulz. Seen showering Vannessa were Tracy O’Loughlin, Sarah Farley, Becky Olivarez, Alissa Shirah, Courtney Egan and Angela Garza, just to name a few.
Attended a recent function at the Pharr Chamber of Commerce and saw Pam Dougherty, Pamela Swafford, Roy Martinez, Loel Garza, Martha Cipriano, Lucy Fernandez, Miguel Angel Leal, Holly Smith and Pam Leverett. A presentation was given by members of the Toastmasters Brian Epps and Phyllis Allen, with commentary by members Blake Hall and Bob MacLeish.
Joined Kate Merrill, Bev Young, and Mary Kay Broughton for their annual birthday lunch the other day. Enjoyed hearing updates on Kate’s son, Matthew Burns, who will graduate from his National Guard Combat Medic Training at Fort Sam Houston in just a few weeks. Also got to hear about Bev’s boys, Chase and Eric, who are excelling in their studies at Texas A&M.
Had some delicious brisket cooked by Blaine Hendrick and watched the Aggies triumph over Nebraska. Then, was excited to watch the Ags win over Texas after a yummy Thanksgiving feast. Perhaps good food is the key to Aggie wins? Who’s cooking for the bowl game?!
Birthday wishes for this week go belatedly to Nicci Grossman, Olivia Vickers, Julie Lara, Paola Villarreal, Joy Veron and Robert Smith. Celebrating today and tomorrow are Tricia Drefke and Sandy Clopton, while Bonnie Smith and Kandy Reed have birthdays this weekend. Happy Birthday, everyone!!
I wish you love & blessings in the coming week and I hope to “see you” soon!
