Edinburg fire and police investigated the crash of a single-engine Cessna which caught on fire and then crashed in an orchard near the intersection of Jackson Road and Monte Christo in Edinburg around 8 a.m. Reports say that former McAllen School Board President and Edinburg attorney William Peisen, 51, was the pilot who was killed in the plane crash. The plane was headed northbound, and then crashed 100 yards in the orchard, which is also surrounded by a small residential area. No one in the neighborhood was injured.

TxDOT issued the following statement:

TxDOT is detouring westbound traffic traveling on FM 1925 (Monte Cristo Road) to Business 281 due to a plane accident just north of the intersection of Monte Cristo and Jackson Roads in Edinburg. Eastbound lanes are open; however, TxDOT asks motorists to avoid the area to allow emergency management personnel to work the accident.
