This year’s Earth Day Festival Art Contest winner is Frank De La Rosa, fourth grade teacher at John H. Shary Elementary.

The City of McAllen’s Earth Day Festival, VIDA VERDE, continues to gain in popularity each year. Area residents are invited free of charge to have fun and learn more about protecting our environment. Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlan, the McAllen Wing of the World Birding Center.

The theme of the festival is to live a “Greener Life” which was captured in De La Rosa’s design inspired by the students in his fourth grade class. De La Rosa’s design will be featured on the t-shirt and in advertising the event. Many unique and creative entries were submitted by artists of all ages which made judging very difficult.

The city’s annual Earth Day Festival is a celebration of the City of McAllen’s environmental community. The festival provides many educational opportunities highlighting our successes and challenges.
