It’s another beautiful week in the Rio Grande Valley…
I don’t know about you, but I am thoroughly enjoying this cool weather and can’t wait to enjoy it some more this Friday at ArtWalk! McAllen ArtWalk is now in its 7th season of encouraging and promoting art and culture in the Rio Grande Valley. Located on Main Street in the “old town” area of McAllen south of Business 83, ArtWalk takes place on the first Friday of each month (excluding our hot summer months).
Among the many displays to look for at ArtWalk on Friday will be the “art hearts” presented by the Junior League of McAllen. As part of the “Art to Heart” project organized by the JLM Provisional Class, 50 plain wooden heart cutouts have been transformed by area artists and will be displayed at ArtWalk before being auctioned off at 6:00pm next Wednesday, November 10th at Roosevelt’s at 7. All proceeds will benefit the community projects of the Junior League of McAllen.
Speaking of the Junior League of McAllen, the Provisional/Sustainer Halloween Social was recently held at the beautiful home of Susie Guidry. Seen enjoying yummy treats (and no tricks) were sustaining members Thelma Santos, Janet Wallace, and Ann Moore, as well as provisional members Faye Davis, Jenny Roberts, and Jessica Villarreal, just to name a few.
I SEE YOU recently went on the road and saw several RGV folks at Czhilispiel XXXVIII in Flatonia, Texas! Javi Barrera and his cooking crew were first place in my book with their delicious chicken, brisket and rib entries. Also seen were Laura Barrera Lukin, Scandia Barrera, Ryan Peterson, and Dusty Davenport.
Was recently a guest at the Noon Mission Lions club and saw Luciano Guerra, Charles Zey, David Martinez, Minnie Rodgers, Don Reinhardt, Shawn Gerlach, Keith Gerlach, and Bertha Filut among many others in this club, which is considered to be one of the most active civic groups in the Rio Grande Valley!
Heritage Village in McAllen held their annual Fall Festival last week featuring crafts, games and fun. Judy Bonham, Helen White, Tilly Eyeington, and Mary VanDeventer were just a few faces I saw milling about the courtyard.
Hidalgo, Texas was the site of the Party at the Pumphouse, sponsored by the City of Hidalgo in conjunction with Welcome Home, RGV. Seen at the party were Joe Vera, Kay Wolf, James Whitener, Dee Trevino, and Phyllis Griggs, just to name a few. The Hidalgo Pumphouse is a wonderful hidden treasure in the RGV, offering beautiful grounds, fascinating history, birding, and more. Make sure to head to Hidalgo and check it out soon!
Birthday wishes for this week go belatedly to Cheri Whitlock, Connie Dixon and Joe Fletcher. Tomorrow Candy Caric and Daniel Silva will blow out candles, while Jenny Hollis will celebrate Friday. Weekend birthday wishes go to Joann Wright, Omar DeLeon, Elsa Perales, Laurie Davenport and Laurel Watkins on Saturday. Happy Birthday, everyone!!
