EDINBURG - U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector seized nearly 18,000 pounds of marijuana and more than 10 pounds of cocaine over the past weekend.
Two of the most significant seizures occurred in the Starr County area when agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station used their tracking skills to find more than 1,100 pounds of marijuana and also to interrupt a smuggling attempt, which caused the smugglers to abandon 1,200 pounds of marijuana.
Additional seizures pushed the total value of narcotics seized from Friday through Sunday to more than $14.4 million. The narcotics will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
