Have you ever wanted to keep those delicious mangos that you bought during the summer for the following fall or winter? This month’s Friday Night speaker, Jennifer Corroy, will be showing us exactly how to accomplish this goal. Through a demonstrative talk, Jennifer will share her passion for preserving food. She will be guiding listeners through every step of the canning process, from food preparation to the final boiling process.
Corroy grew up in Wisconsin, where her care and appreciation for food, starting at its source and ending at the dinner table, grew appreciably. She owes much of her knowledge and love of canning to the instruction and example of her mother, whom also preserved foods with her own relatives. Jennifer is the Assistant Director of the IDEA Public Schools Child Nutrition Program, where she plans menus and works with educational outreach around food and overall student wellness.
“Friday Night with a Naturalist” is a free, fun, and educational family program that will happen this month on May 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Space is limited, so please call ahead or stop by to notify us of your eventual attendance. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center is located at 714 S. Raul Longoria (in the Edinburg Municipal Park).
