The Auxiliary to Edinburg Regional Medical Center was one of 155 auxiliaries in the state who attended the 2009 Texas Association of Healthcare Volunteers Convention in San Antonio on June 5 through 7.

The theme of the 2009 Convention was “The Heartbeat of Healing - Embrace the Spirit.” Competitions at the convention included Auxiliary Scrapbooks, Newsletters, Posters, and Tray-Favors. The Auxiliary to Edinburg Regional Medical Center entered in all four contests.

The Auxiliary to Edinburg Regional Medical Center won first place in the Scrapbook and third place in the Poster competitions during the annual event held this year at the San Antonio Marriott Hotel.

“The Scrapbook represents the 2008 - 2009 year of my presidency and what we as a group, have accomplished,” says Brenda Thompson, president of the Auxiliary to Edinburg Regional Medical Center.

The scrapbook, currently on display at the Gift Shop at Edinburg Regional Medical Center, was selected as the best book among the many entries judged on general appearance, theme and creativity. The scrapbook illustrates the many different activities the hospital volunteers are involved in and the services they help to provide to hospital patients and their families. Their award winning poster was also selected for its originality of presentation and adequate portrayal of the auxiliary’s group activities.

“The Edinburg Regional Medical Center Auxiliary is so greatly appreciated for all their heartfelt efforts in making our hospital a pleasant experience for our patients and their families,” says Javier Cavazos, volunteer manager at Edinburg Regional Medical Center and Edinburg Children’s Hospital. “We are so very fortunate to have them here giving their time to help our patients alongside our hospital staff.”
