The end of May brings one thing guaranteed to cities all across the nation and in Edinburg itís no different. Itís time for seniors at the three high schools to go to the next level and graduate from high school.

Commencement exercises for all three high schools will take place at the McAllen Convention Center on Sunday, June 6, instead of the usual location, the University of Texas-Pan American Fieldhouse.

ďThe move was necessary due to renovation work being done to the Fieldhouse by UTPA,Ē said Dr. Rene Gutierrez, superintendent of Schools for the Edinburg school district.

The schedule by high school is as follows. Edinburg North High School will be at 10 a.m., Edinburg High School will be at 2 p.m. and Johnny G. Economedes High School will be at 6 p.m.

The valedictorians for the three high schools are as follows. For Johnny G. Economedes: Christian Henry, son of Sandy and Brad Henry. Christian will be attending Rice University and will study engineering. Edinburg High School: Ramon Louis Manalo Catindig was accepted to University of Texas at Austin, UTPA and South Texas College. He will study mathematics. Edinburg North High School: Roberto Lopez Jr., son of Robert and Elia Lopez, will attend Harvard and will study biology/biochemistry.

The salutatorians for the three high schools are as follows. For Johnny G. Economedes: Sofia Velazquez, daughter of Sofia Guajardo and Benito Maravilla, will be attending Harvard and will study to become a lawyer. Edinburg High School:Michelle Nicole Gutierrez, daughter of Ismael and Aminta Gutierrez, will be attending UTPA and will study pharmacy. Edinburg North High School: Katy Garcia, daughter of Robert and Mary Ellen Garcia, will attend Stanford University and will major in biomedical engineering.

The top five graduates for each school are listed below.

Johnny G. Economedes High School: Christian Henry, valedictorian; Sofia Velazquez, salutatorian; Danny Lara, Maria Galaviz and Andria Garcia.

Edinburg North High School: Roberto Lopez Jr., valedictorian; Katy Garcia, salutatorian; Rene Castro Jr., Laura Gonzalez and Lillian J. Duran

Edinburg High School: Ramon Louis Manalo Catindig, valedictorian; Michelle Nicole Gutierrez, salutatorian; George Herbert Bailey, Aileen Renee Cayabyab and Christina Louise Zerda
