Wedding best wishes for last Friday, October 23, 2009, go out to Ashley Carlson & Dusty Dickerson . . .

Best wishes to Meredith Jenkins & Chris Whitsell, who were wed in Hawaii last Saturday, October 24, 2009. Her parents are Esther & Raymond Jenkins, III, of McAllen, and the young couple will be living in Lubbock . . .

Also for October 24, 2009, wedding best wishes are sent out to Jennifer Barnetsky & Graham Smith . . .

Saw Melissa & Roland Smith on the plane, headed for a U2 concert. And I can really understand missing your daughter (theirs is Erin) when she’s off to college!

For those of you who are travel buffs, imagine trying to find the camel races in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, the location from which your globetrotting columnist is writing. (Will be home by delivery time, hopefully)

After rolling a grandbaby’s stroller around Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace Hotel, I can honestly tell you that it’s one of the most beautiful hotels on the planet. And yes, visiting that grandson and children are powerful motivations for spending 22+ hours enjoying air travel . . .

The building and expansion going on in Abu Dhabi are beyond imagination, because I would never have thought of so many skyscrapers being built at once! What fun for an architect, to get to plan future projects here. A huge formula 1 racetrack is opening here on November 1st . . .

For future museum lovers’ travels, a Louvre (the only one outside of Paris, France) and a Guggenheim are in the works, two of many planned for the Cultural District. My recommended times for visits are October — March, as their summers are (hard to believe) hotter than ours . . .

Saw the ski slope at the mall in neighboring Dubai (snow suits provided), had a floating Arabian feast on a riverboat, and have to run — off to the Shangri-La Hotel next!

Understand that Karen & Bob Boggus really have some family fun with Halloween, and the fun’s not over yet. Happy Halloween to all of you for this coming Saturday. Teachers all over the Valley can be grateful that “candy night” is on a Saturday this year, and they won’t have all of that sugar high bubbling in their classrooms the next morning!

Birthday cheer for yesterday is wished to Fenn Sullivan and Ashley Pape. For today, happy birthday to Maggi Palacios, Jim Hawley, Brandy Celedon, Donna Bzibziak, Adelina Garza, and Laura Mesquita . . .

And for tomorrow, October 29nd, these folks can blow out candles: former co-worker Pat Paris, Hanna Hutchins, and Donna Crockett. Coming up on Saturday, happy Halloween birthday to Marlee Schwarz, and all of you have a safe Halloween. If you don’t want to hand out candy, go out to eat!
