ECISD held its regular Board meeting on Wednesday March 31 with all trustees in attendance.

As of March 26, 2010 there are currently 31,991 students in the ECISD, according to Superintendent Dr. Rene Gutierrez. The number is 1,215 more students than the same time last year.

Consent agenda:

Approved Bid 09-93, which is the first and final approval to award $30,000 for physical education supplies from Athletic and local funds.

Approved Bid 09-112, which is the first and final approval to award $40,000 for athletic trainer supplies from Athletic department funds.

Approved Bid 09-121, which is the first and final approval for hardware supplies in the amount of $25,000 from Local, Child nutrition, Athletic, and Career and Technical Funds.

Approved Bid 10-84, which is $63,031 for Fine Arts Concert Attire from Fine Arts Funds.

Approved Bid 10-91, which $49,993 for level locks and cylinder supplies from Local Funds.

Approved Bid 10-96, which i $29,540 for concrete masonry block from Local Funds.

Approved Bid 10-108, which is a Texas Fitness Now Grant in the amount of $91,956 for Middle Schools and Brewster School in order to purchase equipment and supplies from buyboard.

Approved to amend RFP 10-11, which appropriates $18,200 for a campus and District consultant strategist for federal programs.

Amended RFP 10-92, which originally appropriated $27,178 for irrigation and landscape for the District's new IT Complex. The Board sent this item back to the Facilities Committee for review after strong consideration from trustees Robert Peņa and Jaime Chavana. The cost for landscaping is up from $15,000 last year, Peņa said.

Approved RFP 08-159, which appropriates $29,200 for elevator service maintenance. It is the second year contract renewal.

Approved an amendment for an interlocal agreement between the District and the City of Edinburg for a South Middle School traffic and circulation improvement project at a cost of $66,386 from local funds.

Approved right-of-way dedication along Freddy Gonzalez and Fourth Streets for South Middle School road improvements. Motion by Trustee Greg Garcia, second by David Torres.

Approved a consultant agreement with Thinking Maps Inc. to provide Thinking Maps training to elementary and secondary school teachers in the amount of $3,500 from State Compensatory Funds. Motion by Trustee Jaime Chavana, second by Carmen Gonzalez.

Approved a 2010-2011 contract, and consultant, agreement with the Teachers' Curriculum Institute to provide training on History Alive Strategies for elementary and secondary teachers. The cost of the agreement is $10,560 from Federal Funds. Motion by Jaime Chavana, second by Greg Garcia.

Approved a Contract Service Agreement with Dinaii Zike of Dinaii Might Adventures Inc. to provide training for English language arts and science school teachers for the 2009-2010 school year. The cost is $6,000 from Local Funds. Motion by Greg Garcia, second by Carmen Gonzalez

Approved a Contract/Consultant agreement with Princeton Review SAT/ACT for South, Harwell, B.L. Garza, Memorial Middle School and Brewster. The amount for the agreement is $43,275 from Gifted and Talented Funds. Motion by Greg Garcia, second by Jaime Chavana.

Approved a Contract/Consultant agreement in the amount of $62,587 with Surescore Company to provide training for all Economedes High School Core Content area teachers. This includes teachers of English language arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Funds will come from State Bilingual, Local, Federal and High School Allotment funds. Approved a contract with Surescore for Barrientes and B.L. Garza Middle Schools in the amount of $32,975 from Gifted and Talented Funds and Federal Funds. Motion by Greg Garcia, second by Carmen Gonzalez.

Approved a contract service agreement with Agile Mind Education Holding Inc. in the amount of $10,500 in order to license computer based online learning services. Funds will come from high school allotment funds. Motion by Greg Garcia, second by Carmen Gonzalez
