The International Museum of Art & Science and the citizens of McAllen are grateful to Veracruz Governor Fidel Herrera Beltran and to McAllen Mayor Richard Cortez. The Governor gave our Mayor a gift of a 10-ton Olmec head, which the Mayor entrusted to the museum as a permanent gift installed in the IMAS front façade. A ceremony last week at the museum, attended by both the Governor and the Mayor, recognized the new installation. Go by to see it!

Farewell to Town Crier columnist Gina Tiano — I’ll miss her, and hope she can write entertaining columns about nursing one of these days. Oh, but she can’t tell anything about moi should I need medical assistance . . .

The most recent time we enjoyed a delicious meal at the Patio on Guerra, we had truly exceptional service from our server Mike Gower. Way to go Mike — good job!

Saw Sylvia & Rene Alanis enjoying a lunch out with their son Juan Alanis, and had a long visit with Mary & Derald Lary .. . .

Met Judith Benter, who has lived here a long time, and we talked Spanish translations, fashions, and jewelry — fun!

Saw another Sylvia, Sylvia Gayle Klein, for hey, more fashion and long-time Valleyite talk . . .

Heard from a golfing birdie that Jim Thompson & Charles Zey had a great tournament together weekend before last. However, the big congratulations for winning the Nuevo Año tournament goes to the father-son team of David & Chase Seal . . .

Gleaned from the last Junior League newsletter — Jayne Salinas and I both think John Krasinski is a great actor, and we both enjoyed the movie “It’s Complicated”. . .

Speaking of the Junior League of McAllen, tomorrow night at 7 p.m. the league is having a new member informational session at the league office, 514 E. Dove. For more info call Olicia Hinojosa at 579-9500 . . .

If you love animals, then I have a fundraiser for you. Puppy Love will be held on February 6th, at IMAS, to benefit the Palm Valley Animal Shelter, and will be a gala to end all. Yes, dinner, dog bowl raffle, live music — you get the picture, so call 686-1441 for more information about sponsorship and attendance . . .

Computer gripe of the day — spell check doesn’t help when the word used incorrectly is actually a word, or have the rest of you noticed that? Drives me crazy. (Oh no, hope my machine isn’t reading this and doesn’t get irritated with me.)

Happy birthday for yesterday is wished to Linda Whitis and Nancy Narro . . .

Special birthday wishes for today go out to Marilyn Moffitt, who had “Mimi’s girls” Jackie, Isabel & Sidney, Sarah, Kathryn, & Michelle down to help her celebrate a little early, along with lots of other family and friends . . .

Birthday greetings for tomorrow go to Diana Garcia, Auggie Cummingham, and Abie Orendain . . .

Note to all readers: the following phone number is not the newspaper’s phone number; it is a number just for this column. Call in your “I See You” news to 686-8056, or mail to the Town Crier. Remember, at least one week ahead!
