Not only did my book club enjoy hearing Ann Williams’ review of People of the Book, by Geraldine Brooks, but we also totally enjoyed the perfect salad plate invented by Kaylynn Norman . . .

Saw Gay Hill, Shirley Slusher, Darlene Hart, Linda Miller, Drucilla Vinger, sis Nancy Cosby, sis-in-law Keesha Zey, Betty Gegenheimer, Lee Bourg, and Eva Spence among the group of us having fun with book talk . . .

Saw Alma de la Garza with a fun-loving groups of friends playing games like a train domino game that looked like a way good time . . .

While being entertained by Barbara Riley, saw several other ladies at a recent meeting, such as Betty Coffman, Kathleen Vinger, Marian Turk, Jean Semler, Kathy Haynes, Jane and Patsy Kittleman . . .

Betty Bloomfield made us all happy by bringing a delicious German chocolate cake made by Diana Mangum of Diana’s Cakes, 686-4758. Can’t wait to try another one . . .

Met some of the lovely young ladies taking part in this year’s Texas Citrus Fiesta, and will have the names for you next week when I have my printed program. Had a nice long visit with Fred Karle and Lucille & Kika de la Garza, and we caught up on our children and grandchildren . . .

Tonight you can attend the McAllen Citizens League’s “It’s Not Just for Members” mixer at 5:30 at Palmer Pavilion. Have hot chili and meet the political candidates for the upcoming election . . .

According to Arrangements Chair Vanessa Cantu of the Junior League of McAllen, it’s not too early to save the date for the annual April Luncheon, this year to be held on April 8, 2010 — a much anticipated event . . . And I have to check out “Everything’s Fine,” the last good book/movie enjoyed by new JLM member and attorney, Roxanna Salinas. (Surely all of you have a friend who has your same tastes in books and movies — if he or she likes it, it’s guaranteed you will! And sometimes sheer inertia prompts me to want another to check it out first.)
