The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation announced Pedro Salazar as the new EEDC Executive Director last week at a special board meeting.

“I’m really excited like I mentioned earlier,” Salazar said. “I really think Edinburg is the gateway to the future and I really think there’s an opportunity to make things happen here and I think the city is moving in the right direction.”

Salazar’s experience for the post is well documented. He not only served on the EEDC Board at one time but also was a commercial banker with Lone Star National Bank and at the University of Texas-Pan American he worked in various capacities relating to community and economic development.

Mayor Richard Garcia made the official announcement and said it was his international business savvy that secured him the position.

“His credentials are impeccable,” Garcia said. “He studied at Thunderbird University which is a renowned international business university in the United States.”

Garcia also said that international relations are the way of the future for Edinburg and with Salazar there couldn’t be better representation.

Salazar also said he was going to take an asset approach to his new post and he hopes to not only share his ideas but incorporate them.

“I have my ideas about economic development and I hope that I can share some of those ideas and we can incorporate those ideas,” Salazar said. “My approach is asset based approach to community development where you identify what your assets are and then you develop your strategies based on those assets.”

Salazar takes his new post at the EEDC at the beginning of the year.
