McALLEN -- McAllen Police and Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers plan to crack down on seatbelt violators, through June 5, as part of the Click It or Ticket Campaign.
In its 10th year, Click It or Ticket is intended to remind drivers that state law requires everyone in a motor vehicle to buckle up. Children under 8, unless taller that 4 feet, 9 inches are required to be in a car seat or booster seat. Violators could face fines up to $250.
DPS spokesman Johnny Hernandez said highway patrol will have a zero tolerance police during the Click It or Ticket, launched each year ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.
McAllen police spokesman Jose Hernandez also said, “The McAllen Police Department wants all its citizens to be safe everyday, but especially during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Enforcing these laws is a daily task for the officers, but this Click it or Ticket Mobilization Campaign is an emphasis that the laws have a purpose and that 'safety' should be on everyone’s mind.”
