The PSJA High School Girls Powerlifting team had a great season this year, having three athletes place in State and winning three team trophies in various competitions.

Junior Erica Cordova, received a Silver medal at the Powerlifting State Competition on March 19 in Corpus Christi, while competing in the 123.5 lbs. division. Senior Maya Gray, received a Bronze medal in the 114.5 lbs division, while Junior Priscilla Flores, took 7th place. Senior Vanessa Gonzalez came shy of finishing her last lifts in the 165.5 division.

“Last year we said, ‘one more goal to add to the list will be for us to double the number of Lady Bears appearing at the State meet’,” Coach Yolanda Gomez said. “We are proud to say we accomplished our goal.”

The Lady Bears team also brought home three team trophies, out of five meets they attended, one 1st place trophy and two 2nd place trophies.

“Any coach would love to have the type of athletes I have in my program,” Gomez said. “We are not just a team, we are a family. We encourage each other not only in the weight room, but also in the classroom.”

The PSJA ISD Board of Trustees and Administrations congratulate these student athletes and their coaches for their performance and great representation.
