Downtown Revitalization: The San Juan Economic Development Corporation is busy preparing for several important events this month. As part of Phase II of San Juan’s Downtown Revitalization Plan, the San Juan EDC will hold a second community input meeting on Wednesday, April 21 at 6pm at San Juan’s Amigos del Valle building located on 600 W. 1st Street.

San Juan EDC Board President Jesus Zambrano encourages San Juan business owners and residents to attend this important meeting. “The purpose of this meeting is to gather feedback from the community on the vision and implementation plan for San Juan’s downtown district,” states Zambrano. “It is imperative that everyone participate in setting San Juan’s future growth and development plan.”

Edminster, Hinshaw, Russ & Associates (EHRA) will lead the group through visualization exercises on design concepts, sidewalk enhancements, streetscapes and prioritization of capital improvement projects. For more information, please contact the SJEDC office at 956-783-3448.

San Juan Wetlands: The San Juan EDC has worked as lead agency on behalf of the City of San Juan for the design, planning and construction of a 7 acre constructed wetland facility. With a collaborative effort between the San Juan EDC, San Juan Utility and Parks & Recreation Departments, the project began in 2006 as the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality awarded the project funding under the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Plan.

The San Juan EDC proudly presents the city with this beautifully constructed nature amenity on April 22 at 11:30 am. The wetlands are located behind the parks and recreation department building at 301 E. Hall Acres Road.

The San Juan Chamber of Commerce will assist with the ceremonial ribbon cutting. The public is invited to attend this ceremony. The Parks & Recreation Department will also be hosting many activities in observation of Earth Day.

For these details, please contact the City of San Juan Parks and Recreation Department at 956-223-2350.

Welcoming New EDC Staff: The San Juan EDC would also like to welcome new staff to the EDC. SJEDC Executive Director Miki McCarthy proudly introduces Project Specialist Melissa Ramirez and Office Clerk Jesus Perez. “We are excited to add these two talented individuals to our EDC team and look forward to accomplishing many more new projects with their assistance,” adds McCarthy. Both candidates were selected from a diverse group of applicants that had applied for the open positions.
