Eek – with September rolling in, we have to officially admit that our all too brief summer is over.  Those lazy days at the beach, over.  The heat and humidity – not over yet.  We had some of that end of summer fun with Kathleen & Jack Vinger at the island . . .

At an end of summer fundraiser, saw many ladies at the Easter Seals Power of the Purse gala at the Lone Star National Bank on east Nolana.  Lucile de la Garza, in the “If Purses Could Talk” category, donated a gold bag which had had tea with Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and been to Spain to see the King and Queen!  Ah, if that purse could have told us even more!

Saw Marge Bentsen, who had donated a gorgeous purse from Africa, and Gayle Runnels, whose purse from Nantucket had a dolphin design . . .

Visited with many other ladies, such as Barbara Guerra, Charlene Hertz, Alice Tavarez, Kathe Tavarez, and Easter Seals Director Pattie Rosenblum . . .

Met lovely, petite Pilar Zuniga, who was quite helpful to me with banking info at the tall Chase Bank . . .

Saw Jolene Vitko, pretty in red and white, heading in to a birthday luncheon with the likes of Pam Havens and Linda Miller . . .

Also had a birthday dinner, celebrating both early and belatedly with Esther Jenkins and Marilyn Hawkins . . .

Saw Eva Spence, Gay Hill, and Frances Cohn enjoying some ladies’ time out for lunch . . .

Also saw Vannie Cook Children's Cancer Center Director with some of her board members, such as Shannon Honrubia, Melissa Smith, Laura Martinez, and several other ladies, all planning good things . . .

Cheers to Joe Lassiter and Ernesto Sepulveda, who know how to answer tricky questions tactfully!

Thank you to Kirk & Jeri Clark, who hosted the reception last week at the International Museum of Art & Science to welcome new Director Joseph Bravo . . .

Also, thanks are in order for Mary Garza and Angela Maxwell at the museum, who have been helping me out with Advisory Board matters.  Advisory Board members take note – our first meeting will be on Thursday, September 9th, at 5 p.m. . . .

While I’m at this gratitude thing, thank you to Michael Puig at McAllen Country Club, who showed my sis and me how to use some of the exercise machines, and to Sally Garza, for setting up our mission.  I’m expecting that soon I will be fit and trim!  Oh pooh, I actually have to use these machines faithfully, don’t I?.

Happy belated birthday to Ninfa Estimbo of Edinburg, for last week, August 26th, and thank you to her mom Ida Estimbo, for calling in the info.  (She was on time – I was out of town.)

Still in August, yesterday’s 31st celebrants included Rubi Yzaguirre, Elaine Bready, Dawn Edwards, and George Guerra.  Happy end-of-August anniversaries were celebrated by Mel & Tim Johnstone, Rita & Morris Atlas, and Drucilla & Jerry Vinger . . .a

For today, happy birthday to that same Shannon Honrubia and Marilyn Hawkins,

Birthday greetings for tomorrow go out to Rob Simpson and Karen Peterson . . .
