The Mexican Consulate invites the Mexican community and their friends to celebrate Mexico 2010 — Bicentennial Independence/Centennial Revolution at the McAllen Convention Center Saturday Sept. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m.

This year marks the 200th Anniversary of Mexican Independence from Spain (Sept. 16, 1810) and the 100th Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution (Nov. 20, 1910).

Two hundred years ago, Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla proceeded and executed his plans for independence on Sept. 15, 1810. The Mexican Revolution was an uprising lead by Francisco I. Madero against the 30 year dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz that was created in the Institution of Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) and the establishment of a democratic society.

Some of the artists performing at this year’s festival will be Banda Original de Guadalajara and Jorge Alfredo Cervantes.
