If Santa’s elves ever run out of ideas for clever gifts, they would be smart to attend Christmas in August, sponsored by the Texas Extension Education Association in Hidalgo County. The theme for this year’s event is “A Country Christmas.”
Christmas in August will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at St. Joseph the Workers Catholic Church, 2315 Ithaca Ave., McAllen. The event will be held in the parish hall, located at the back of the church on the corner of south 23rd Street and Ithaca. Admission is free.
But you don’t have to work for Santa to attend. Club members will present demonstrations for all kinds of holiday and recycling projects. There will be craft booths, a bake sale, and plants and herbs.
“Making your own gifts is more than a way to save money, it’s a fun way to be creative and give a little something of yourself,” said Ida Acuna-Garza, a TEEA officer.
Proceeds from this event will be used to promote the association’s community service projects, such as the distribution of children’s books, hygiene supplies for nursing homes, and educational programs for consumers. A craft pamphlet will be available for sale, along with a chance to win several door prizes.
