The Bravos Football Club unveiled "Piquin" their mascot at a news conference Thursday afternoon. "Piquin" was created by Arturo Vazquez of Mexico City.

Bravos FC will kick off the 2009 USL Premier Development League season on May 2 at 7:30 p.m. against the league runner up Laredo Heat at Valley View High School's Tiger Stadium, in Hidalgo.

After "Piqu-n's" presentation, the Valley soccer team named a goalkeeper, six defenders, two midfielders and a forward as the first players in Bravos FC history.

The players presented were: Eric Chapa (GK), Enrique Quintero, Pablo Degollado, Edgar Coria, Oscar Aguirre, Reynol Fuentes and Samuel Shipp (DEF), Kendor Vásquez and Edgar Acuña (MF), and Jesús Mireles (FWD).

Mireles, 17, helped lead the Hidalgo Pirates to the Class 4A State High School Soccer Championship held in Georgetown on April 11. The speedy striker scored one goal in the State Tournament and recently signed with Bravos FC. His contract is pending USL and USSF approval.

All the players announced by Bravos FC are Valley residents.
