Edinburg Children's Hospital celebrated its fifth birthday March 26 with a party for area children, many of whom were born at the hospital.
Edinburg Children’s Hospital — a facility of the South Texas Health System, one of the largest healthcare providers and one of the largest employers in Hidalgo County — significantly expanded the types of services available to children in the Rio Grande Valley when it opened five years ago.
It has the Valley’s only pediatric emergency center, and it recently garnered distinction as an Asthma Center of Excellence by The Joint Commission. All of the hospital’s dedicated nurses, therapists, and practicing physicians specialize in treating children. They can quickly identify injuries and illnesses without the need for invasive, diagnostic procedures, and they do it all in a comforting, kid-friendly environment.
Edinburg Children’s Hospital houses the Ronald McDonald Family Room, where parents and families of patients can go for a quiet respite, to take a nap or shower or to do laundry, and recently, Edinburg Children’s Hospital even opened a Subway restaurant in the lobby to help parents keep up their strength and resolve through nutritious food options when their child is hospitalized with an illness.
Edinburg Children’s Hospital’s child life specialists work with patients to help them and their families deal with stress and anxiety they may feel about their treatment and hospitalization, and of course, Edinburg Children’s Hospital always has exciting and unique visitors — athletes, authors, craftsmen and even four-legged visitors — that show up to cheer up patients!
