The City of Edinburg has confirmed the candidates for this year's city elections to be decided on May 14.

The deadline to file with the city passed on March 14. That leaves incumbent Gene Espinoza vying against businessman Homer Jasso Jr. for place three on the council. Espinoza took first billing when the places on the ballot were decided earlier this week.

J. Chris Treviņo, who is Hidalgo County Commissioner Joseph Palacios' chief of staff, and banker Elias Longoria Jr will compete for place four. Councilmember Alma Garza has opted not to run in this year's elections.

Municipal court judge Terry Palacios didn't draw an opponent

Early voting will take place on May 2 to May 10.
