EDINBURG – The following items were

approved during the June 7, 2011 regularly scheduled meeting of the

Edinburg City Council:


Approved a Special Use Permit for

“Texas Cook’em High Steaks in Edinburg” to be held July 2, 2011 at

Edinburg Municipal Park. The one day cook-off and outdoor concert

will feature David Lee Garza y Los Musicales and a fireworks



Ordinance amendment to change the

designation of land use for properties within the Downtown District

from Urban, Urban University and General Commercial to Downtown

Land Use Designation as a result of the City having adopted a Form

Based Code for Downtown Edinburg.


Ordinance amendment to the

Administrative Code to include amendments to the City’s

Organizational Chart. This amendment allows for the

reclassification of the Engineering Department as a division

included within the Department of Public Works. The Public Works

department will consist of four divisions; Engineering, Streets,

Traffic, and Airport.


Awarded bid in the amount of

$190,787 to O.G. Construction, Co., Inc. for the rehabilitation of

40 concrete and brick manholes. The manholes along Freddy Gonzalez

Drive, 18th Ave., 20th Ave., 21st,

Loeb Street and Closner Boulevard need to be rehabilitated due to



Awarded bid in the amount of

$250,226.00 to Rigney Construction & Development, LLC for the

Bar 5 Subdivision Phase II Paving Improvements. This project funded

through CDBG monies will allow for the reconstruction of two

streets complete with curb and gutter.


Authorized the City Manager to enter

into an agreement with Quintanilla, Headley and Associates, Inc.,

regarding the Wastewater Treatment Plan Effluent Discharge at Curry

Drain. The proposal consists of preparing plans and specifications

for the reroute of a 30” pipe and the relocation of the outfall



Approved an inner agency agreement

between the Edinburg Police Department and the United States

Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Agency. Through this

agreement, one Edinburg Police Officer will be assigned to the

DEA’s McAllen District Strike Force whose mission is to continue a

vigilant fight against drugs.
