EDINBURG – Come celebrate nature and learn how to enjoy it safely with us at the Edinburg World Birding Center!  There are lots of different methods and techniques you can learn to use and apply when visiting any spectacular nature park around the world.

The event will include informative talks presented by EWBC staff on how to keep safe in the outdoors, how to read a map and use a GPS, how to recognize harmful plants in the area, and how to view wildlife and keep it safe. We will also have very special guests from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department and the Edinburg Police Department that will speak about personal safety and children will participate in their very own finger printing.

Families will also get to enjoy a karate talk and Team Tiger demonstration by the Villanueva family out of McAllen. We will also have Mike Gonzalez from Elite Martial Arts of San Juan  provide us with women’s self defense tips.  This is a fantastic family event, there is something for everyone, so bring some friends and enjoy all the ways to keep safe when marveling at nature at your favorite park!

Safety in the Park will be held from 3 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 11. Children’s finger printing will take place at 5:30 p.m. Snacks and other items will be for sale in our Feathered Nest gift shop. This great family event is FREE!
